Yohji Yamamoto at Design Museum Holon! July 05 – October 20, 2012

Following on from Florence, Paris and London, the futuristic Design Museum in Holon will be the next stop to celebrate 40 years in the career of the great Yohji Yamamoto, with an exhibition running from the 5 July.

In line with the museum’s architecture designed by Ron Arad, the exhibition curated by the Artistic Director Galit Gaon, sets itself the objectives of re-conceptualising the way in which the more conventional retrospectives on fashion are usually presented. The halls, corridors, internal galleries and outside courtyards will therefore be set up in a way that follows the architectural structure of the museum in a fluid and consistent manner. This will be achieved by dramatically overlapping strips of weathered steel in different shades.

More than 80 of Yamamoto’s designs will be showcased, including men’s and women’s garments, all displayed according to a themed flow, punctuated by the expressive installations of Masao Nihei, workshops and guided tours allowing for interaction from the public, and accompanying them on a journey that will evoke emotions, memories and reflections on clothing and design.

An experience available until the 20 October 2012. An opportunity to discover the complexity and revolutionary aesthetics of one of the most influential and enigmatic designers in the world, whose style have contributed to irreversibly turning around the traditional rules on fashion and dressing.

But the exhibition also provides the perfect opportunity to visit a new and modern artistic-cultural hub in the area of Tel Aviv in Israel, which will be reopening its doors on the very occasion of the inauguration of Yohji Yamamoto’s exhibition.

And for those of you that are unable to plan a trip down to the Design Museum in Holon, between the 5 July and 20 October, don’t despair! In a single instant you can always admire the exceptional and exclusive series of magnificent creations from Yamamoto in the IVO MILAN on-line catalogue!
