By taking the opportunity to look beyond the offerings of the online catalogue we indeed find not so well-known combinations of clothing with unfamiliar names and limited shop distribution that have retained the same original freshness of ‘new arrivals‘. Need an example?

Katrien Van Hecke is a a young Belgian designer who works with silk (only from Italy), and eco-friendly dyes made exclusively from wild herbs and plants, such as mint, chamomile and elderberry, or with spices more commonly known for their culinary uses rather than in textiles, as cinnamon, turmeric and chili pepper.

And there is also Vlas Blomme, whose name comes from the Flemish for ‘flax flower‘ and pays tribute to the fine flax selection of Kortrijk, used for most of the garments of the Japanese designer Satoshi Ishii.

Linen and silk cloth, natural dyes, comfortable and asymmetrical lines are the hallmarks of a brand particularly sensitive to the more relaxed pace of summer.

The aesthetic dimension of the showcase…

We have spent many years arranging our shop window as the natural showcase for the collections that change from season to season inside the store. It is a sort of metaphysical space in which to display and show off the spectacular nature of certain apparel, and especially our own fanciful interpretation of these items. There is no way for us to be sure that the general feelings and ideas we have about the collections are conveyed in the best possible way, on the other hand, the designers themselves often leave out or simply refuse to express the possible connotations of their collections.

So that’s how it is, an entirely arbitrary composition that takes over the main window of the store each week, as well as the less imposing side windows and interior cases!

It is a general image that employs a precise aesthetic lesson provided by that singular and indefinable concept of beauty known as wabi-sabi; something that different forms of the so-called Japanese school expertly make use of in clothing. Greatly simplifying, we might say that wabi-sabi is the opposite of all that which in aesthetic terms we call ‘luxury’. Luxury is glitter, flashy and smacks of something new and artificial, it is easy to reproduce and make widely available; it has a simple and explicit message. The beauty of wabi-sabi remains open in every sense to the changing times, trends and events, making it impracticable, if not impossible, to replicate. In the words of Leonard Koren:

It is the beauty of things imperfect,

impermanent, and incomplete.

It is the beauty of things modest and humble.

It is the beauty of things unconventional.

Dressing on the sale doesn’t mean having to make do with clothes that are uninteresting or even mediocre. When there is an extensive choice, only a cursory glance, and items characterised by a certain formal complexity, it is inevitable that you could overlook the wearability, as well as the possible and many combinations that transform them.

A multi-brand store can become distracting and require an effort to envisage items that have little similarity. How to combine a t-shirt? And that skirt or those pants, what can I wear with them? These are all typical and recurring questions.

But the flexibility offered by an eye that is trained to mix colours and volumes could prove an invaluable help in building up your personal style, and without any exaggeration, your totally unique style.

One only has to think of certain horrific combinations in collections that were circulating during the winter months, gaining unconditional success, like the one from Comme des Garçons, for example?

The Paris Fashion Week has just come to an end, and it is with great pleasure that we wish to share with you the spaces, previews, discoveries and friendships we experienced, which, over the years, have come to be the most intense moments of the season.

Thankfully, though the pace is brisk, it suits our insatiable and tireless curiosity, our suppliers, representatives and colleagues are all dear friends and, not least of all, the setting is that of the beautiful Ville Lumière.

It is an opportunity to display little known and even less talked about areas of fashion, far from the usual stereotypes that associate the fashion world with pomp and luxury. Here, in the middle, exists a very human experience, characterized by tireless experimentation and work with styles as yet little explored.

This title serves as a perfect introduction to the meeting between the shots taken by the young photographer from Padua, Giulia Magnaguagno, and the offerings for autumn from the store IVO MILAN.

The concept of ‘outside the neighbourhood’ refers to the external perspective, and from certain viewpoints, also refers to being outside the boutique in Padua, which usually shows its range inside the spaces that have now become familiar to public online.

But it is also an indication of the subject around which Giulia shoots her photographs, in other words, a journey. With the focus centred increasingly on the strong scenic and aesthetic presence of the female form, the dimension that moves is suggested by minimal touches: luggage, roads and changing backgrounds. The elsewhere is intentionally presented and is based on the models themselves. They interpret the clothing designed in different places and cultures, immortalised in set contexts; which are easily recognisable for anyone that knows Padua … from the historic centre, the famous university observatory of Galileo Galilei in the vicinity of Specola, on the Ponte Molino and Ponte di Ferro bridges, to the countryside surrounding the town centre.
